Stair geometry check.

Resolve equal risers and treads from floor rise, available going, number of flights, clear width, and the selected Nepal NBC 206:2024 occupancy limits.

01 · Code + geometry

Set the stair envelope.

Available going is the combined horizontal tread run across all flights, excluding landing depth.

Calculation method

Check geometry against occupancy.

The tool rounds the total riser count up from the target riser while enforcing the selected occupancy's maximum riser. All risers are then made equal.

Total treads equal risers minus flights because each flight terminates at a floor or landing. The entered available going is divided by those treads, and risers are distributed as evenly as possible between flights.

NBC 206:2024 also requires at least 2 m headroom and a 900 mm handrail height, and includes additional exit-capacity and building-specific provisions. Final stair design must be checked in plan and section by the responsible designer.
